Let’s go over the calendar line-up….

Every Thursday we support the Twin Peaks Bike Night and have started our own “Bike of the Week” to show off the coolest bikes in attendance and their owners.

This weekend we will be running the 10th Annual Maiden Voyage Poker run to benefit Camp Quality Heartland. Ten years ago, the Maiden Voyage was Dillon Brother’s first ever poker run. Dillon Brothers has always been close with Camp Quality and we look forward to continuing to built on our participation.

Ladies’ Night, this is the crown jewel even for the ladies. All the spring and summer fashions with VIB double punches, take stationary rides on the Jumpstart system, professional photos on a new Harley and more!

Easton Memorial Poker Run benefits the “Hand in Hand” Program at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha. We take pleasure in supporting benefits that place a hand on the care of children and finding cure for disease.

“Run for the Border” is our first Iron Butt ride. We’ll be crossing borders into Iowa, South Dakota, and North Dakota and then back to the dealership. On this ride you’ll be completing the Saddlesore 1000 which is 1000 miles in 24 hours. Do you have what it takes?

The 2nd Destination Ride is all about freedom. The freedom to leave whenever we want and the freedom to take whatever route we choose.

Our 9th Annual Day of the Hog benefits the MDA. The Muscular Dystrophy Association is voluntary health agency dedicated partnerships between scientists and concerned citizens. Their goal is to conquer neuromuscular diseases that affect millions of Americans and our goal is to help.

The MetricFest Show & Shine Swap meet is a ‘free to the public’ event for all metric motorcycles. Bike lovers will bring out their favorite motorcycle to the Show and Shine or bring in old parts to set up in a swap meet booth. There will also be a place to buy and sell participants bikes.

So there’s a line-up of events and we look forward to a great turnout to support these benefits as well as have an awesome time. We don’t want to forget that there are always some form of special running for all our departments, right now we are offering 0% financing for up to 60 months on the purchase of a new Triumph.

We love to ride as much as we appreciate our customers and their continued participation through out the years. Dillon Brothers events are a way for us to give back to the community and have fun while growing together. With your help and support, we will be able to continue funding these benefits through our love of motorcycles for years to come.

Chevy Silverados, ATVs and Summer Heat

My cousins and I would take out ATVs out after a spring rain and mud up our tires and clothes.”

I remember as a child one of my favorite activities was to hop onto a car hood tied to the back of Dad’s 3wheeler and he would pull my sister and I around on the ice and snow. We would return to the house with Rudolph noses, dusted in snow, and our fingers would take hours to thaw. As I got older I became aware of the term “mudding!” My cousins and I would take our ATVs out after a spring rain and mud up our tires and clothes. Those are the memories that are forever locked away in my memory closet.

2012 Suzuki KingQuad 750

As summer rolls around the corner, we’re going to be pulling out our ATVs and dirt bikes. Fine tuning the engines, replacing oil, gassing up and checking the tires. But why stay in your backyard if you can load up in a Chevy Silverado and really tear up the dirt?

With a large selection of Silverado 1500 trucks, Chevrolet has built trucks that’ll get you where you need to be and keep your cargo safe so you can make memories. The Chevy Silverado 1500 comes in four different trim levels, the: work truck, LS, LT, and LTZ. Available in regular cab, extended cab, or crew cab there’s a truck to suit your needs.

Put all these pieces together and you get one great “kick butt” truck to haul your off road vehicle in.”

The Silverado is available in two different drive trains, four-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive and V6 or V8 engines. MPG ranges from 20-25 on the highway and 15-20 in the city. If you’re worried about the color there are plenty of colors to choose from: black, blue granite metallic, graystone metallic, summit white, victory red and more. Put all these pieces together and you get one great “kick butt” truck to haul your off road vehicle in.

Congratulations to Chase McGrath on earning his AMA Pro License

Dillon Brothers Motorsports’ own Chase McGrath,  parts manager extraordinaire, can now add professional motocross rider to his resume.  After finishing 10th in Expert and 8th in Pro Sport at the Amateur Arenacross Championship in Las Vegas last week, Chase has finally earned his AMA Pro Motocross license.

“CONGRATULATIONS on your Pro License Chase!! Here’s to continued success in the future”

To even qualify to compete in the championship in Las Vegas he had to finish in the top 4 in regional races. Having finishing 4th in the Expert event at the Southern regional and 2nd in Pro Sport at the Western regional he had earned a trip to Vegas to finally get a shot at getting his Pro license. Considering that most pro riders devote 100% of their time to riding and competing it’s even more impressive that Chase has achieved his life long dream while continuing to work full time as the parts manager for us here at Dillon Brothers.

In A Cloud of Dust: Off the road and on to adventure

“Ever since Siochiro Honda first introduced Americans to the world of small, affordable motorcycles in 1959, we’ve become enthralled with the idea of taking motorcycles off road.”

As we continue on down the path of what is a motorcycle I’m going to jump around a bit and cover the off-road class. I know, I know, you’re probably wondering why I’m not going in chronological order as laid out in my original article but with motocross season in full swing I’ve been geeking out on the Speed channel every weekend and I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to talk about one of my favorite types of motorcycles. Who among us didn’t drool over the old Honda scramblers and Yamaha enduros as a kid, longing to go tearing up trails and jumping over creeks.

Ever since Siochiro Honda first introduced Americans to the world of small, affordable motorcycles in 1959, we’ve become enthralled with the idea of taking motorcycles off road. In the mid 1960’s Americans were buying these small bikes by the truckload.  They started appearing on the backs of RVs and in campgrounds around the country as people started using them to get around the trails and carry them to their favorite watering holes.

By the late 1960’s Japanese motorcycle companies began challenging the European manufactures for supremacy in the motocross world. In 1972 the first stadium motocross event was held at the Los Angeles Coliseum and in 1975 a 125cc world championship was introduced.  During the late1970’s and early 1980’s the world of off road motorcycles experienced major leaps in technology with the typical two stroke, air cooled, twin shock rear suspension giving way to water cooled, single shock rear suspension bikes. The 1990’s brought along the first four stroke dirt bikes striving to become more environmentally friendly in the face of ever increasing pressure from the government and new environmental regulations.

Like countless others I was introduced to the founding fathers of the off road riding and racing world by what has often been called the most important motorcycle documentary ever made, On Any Sunday.  Even though it was made before I was even born it is a living tribute to the legends of dirt like Steve McQueen and Malcolm Smith. Now thanks to DVDs and streaming video companies like Netflix it will continue to be available for generations to come. Thank god since my trusty old VHS copy was just about worn out.

The greatest thing about the modern dirt bikes is the variety of sizes and styles.  With sizes ranging from 50cc models complete with optional training wheels for the youngest of riders all the way up to 1000+ monsters in the newly emerging adventure touring class of motorcycles that allow you to enjoy the highways as well as the back roads and trails once you reach your destination. Todays off road motorcycles cover all of the needs of those of us who love to go play in the dirt. From motocross dirt bikes, to dual sports, to even what many of us would consider the ultimate adventure touring bikes like the Triumph Tiger Explorer, there is no limit to where you can go no matter your age or experience level.

From all the way back to the Christmas morning when my parents got me the Evel Knieval model bicycle with the handle bar mounted rev up motorcycle sound machine to my first mini-bike I’ve always loved the freedom of taking my 2 wheels off the pavement and into the world of off road adventures. I will continue to look forward to the future of off road motorcycle innovations and hope there will always be places to ride them.
