2013 Kawasaki Lineup: Rise of the Ninja 300 and Ninja ZX-6R (636cc)

“With the announcement of a brand new Ninja 300 and a revamped 636cc Ninja ZX-6R Kawasaki is sure to shake up the sportbike world.”

Kawasaki kicked off their 2013 Ninja model lineup with a blowout party in New York’s Times Square on September 13th featuring stunt riding demonstrations and a two city block long display of their new models and some classic Ninjas from the past. By far the biggest news of the day was the debut of a brand new fuel injected Ninja 300 which is set to replace the longstanding king of the small sportbike class the Ninja 250R.  Almost equally exciting was the news of a newly revamped Ninja ZX-6R with a pumped up 636cc engine and new body styling. Here at Dillon Brothers Motorsports we can’t wait for the new Ninjas to arrive and you can rest assured that we will be the first to get them so be sure to stop in frequently and keep an eye out for them to pop up on the showroom floor.

2013 Utility ATV Models: Sport ATV or Work Quad They Do it All

“The sport ATV may have come first but utility 4-wheelers are rapidly starting to dominate the market.”

Todays utility ATVs are being used more and more for work rather than play. Whether you’re looking to plow the snow off your driveway, mow your acreage or haul away brush but still go out and have some occasional fun, todays utility quad will do it all. While the original ATV was considered to be little more than big boy’s toys, much of the focus on modern ATVs has tended more and more towards the utility line of all terrain vehicles.

The modern ATV has evolved a lot through time…

Since the first inception of three wheeler ATV in the 1970s up to the modern day utility ATVs some major changes have occurred along the way. In 1970 the first all terrain vehicle was introduced, the Honda US90 three-wheeler and several years later in 1979 the Yamaha YT125 3-wheel ATV expanded the available models. Not wanting to get left too far behind, Kawasaki introduced their first three wheeler, the KTL200-A1 and then the following year Suzuki jumped in with both feet with the introduction of the very first 4-wheeled ATV on the market, the Suzuki LT-125 sport quad. There may not be as many places to ride your ATVs as there used to be but there’s still plenty of work to be done.

The 2013 model lineup for all ATV brands holds options for every possible use..
sport or utility or both.

The 2013 Honda ATV utility lineup includes 5 different models and multiple option packages for each ranging from small yet versatile 225cc Recon all the way up to the 675cc powerhouse Rincon. Probably the most popular Honda utility 4-wheelers year in and year out though are the Foreman and the Rancher models. The 2013 Foreman series feature a robust 475cc liquid-cooled, fuel injected, single-cylinder four-stroke engine with a 5-speed transmission. With Honda’s optional electronic power steering and TraxLok® system you get push button electronic shift and the ability to switch between 2WD & 4WD effortlessly.  The 2013 Honda Rancher has many of the same options with a smaller 420cc engine and a choice between 4WD and 2WD trim levels.

There is no mistaking the fact that the Brute Force is a perfectly named ATV.

Kawasaki has the aptly named Brute Force line of utility ATVs for 2013, all of which are fully capable of whatever you can to throw at them. Ranging from the 2WD Brute Force 300 to the Brute Force 650 and all the way up to the incredibly powerful Brute Force 750, Kawasaki has a full range of work horses to fit your every need.  With an incredibly powerful fuel injected 90-degree V-twin 749cc engine, the largest on the market, the Brute Force 750 features a fully automatic, dual-range continuously variable transmission,  two wheel – or four-wheel drive operation which is selectable by simply pressing a button on the handlebar and optional electronic power steering.

Yamaha’s Grizzly line of ATVs have become legendary in the multi-purpose  4-wheeler market and no doubt that the legend will continue to grow in 2013.  Yamaha has just about every size of Grizzly imaginable to fit everyone’s needs and budget including a 125, 300, 350, 450, 550 and 700 series in a number of different option packages. Every 2013 Yamaha Grizzly includes fully automatic transmissions and all but the 125 and 300 Grizzly models feature On-Command® 4WD which means switching from 2WD to 4WD is as simple as pushing a handlebar-mounted button. The larger 450, 550 and 700 series models are also available with electronic power steering.

Suzuki literally invented the four-wheel ATV and they continue to carry on the tradition of innovation in the ATV industry. In 1982 the original Suzuki LT-125 established Suzuki as the first on 4-Wheels and as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of that breakthrough the Suzuki KingQuad series continues to set the standard by which all other ATVs are judged. Suzuki has a variety of sizes available including the 400, 500 and 750 King Quad models, all of which feature continuously QuadMatic® fully automatic CVT transmissions, selectable two or four-wheel drive operation with the flip of a handlebar-mounted lever and like the rest of it’s competitors optional power steering on it’s larger models.

If the ATV market seems vast the number of ATV parts and accessories is virtually infinite

These days the number of aftermarket accessories available to mount on your utility ATVs is seemingly endless.  A growing segment of ATV owners use them more as work vehicles than recreational ones. Whether you’re in the market for a Warn winch, Moose utility plow, QuadBoss Mower, hitch, ATV tank tracks, quad mitts to keep you hands warm while you work in the winter or a even utility rack to haul stuff around be sure to stop in to Dillon Brothers Motorsports with the VIN number of your ATV to help make finding the proper parts easier and we can help you find what you need to get the job done. No article about ATV’s can go without mentioning the younger, bigger cousin..
The Side by Side utility vehicle.

Of course ATVs aren’t the only utility vehicles that can help you get your work done. Side-by-side utility vehicles like the Honda Big Red, Yamaha Rhino and Kawasaki Mule are becoming more and more popular with land owners in their never ending quest to save time and effort in their outdoor chores. Some cities have even passed ordinances allowing UTVs to become street legal to be driven on the streets. Whatever type of vehicle you pick remember that Dillon Brothers Motorsports has more ATV’s and Utility Accessories in stock than anyone in the area.We already have the 2013 models but when it comes time to shop for a 2014 ATV we will surely have them before anyone else.

Street Legal Utility Vehicle Ordinance Passes in Fremont, NE

“You can drive a utility vehicle on the street in some Nebraska cities but it depends on the city and their local UTV ordinance.”

Fremont, Nebraska has passed an ordinance which allows Utility Vehicles (called a Side by Side or UTV) such as the Honda Big Red, Kawasaki Mule and Teryx and Yamaha Rhino to be driven on most city streets. The Fremont UTV ordinance states specifically that Golf carts, go-carts and ATVs do not qualify.

There are limitations for street legal utility vehicles but most new UTVs are nearly compliant right out of the crate. The Fremont ordinance is very specific but our basic [and not legally binding] understanding is that to be street legal a UTV must have the following:  Headlights, tail lights and turn signals, properly functioning brake system, adequate mufflers, an approved spark arrestor, roll bar and safety belts. Registered UTVs cannot exceed 30 miles per hour, must be equipped with a bicycle safety flag and can only be operated on the streets from sunrise to sunset. Licensed drivers must apply for a permit at the local police station, pay a $25 fee for the registration, be at least 18 years old and carry liability insurance.

Click the following link for the full Street Legal Utility Vehicle Ordinance information within the Fremont Nebraska City Council Meeting minutes:  [Agenda Pages 133-137]

Utility Vehicle / Side By Side Inventory at Dillon Brothers in Omaha, NE

The Street Legal Side by Side ordinance defines UTVs as being between 48-74 inches wide, a maximum of 135 inches long from bumper to bumper, weigh between 900-2000 lbs and seat at least 2 people side by side. Certain streets are still prohibited for UTV use  including 23rd street (Hwy 30), Broad Street (Hwy 77, Bell Street and Military Ave. but these streets may still be crossed at traffic light controlled intersections.

You can drive a Utility Vehicle on the streets in other Nebraska cities as well. At least a few other cities have passed similar street legal UTV ordinances or are at least considering them. So far Stanton, NE and Alliance, NE have also passed ordinances allowing UTVs to have limited street use, similar to Fremont. Columbus has rejected such an ordinance in the past but it continues to come up in committee hearings.

We here at Dillon Brothers carry a full line of new Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki UTVs as well as used models including the occasional Polaris and Arctic Cat side by sides.

To recap, in order to operate your UTV on the streets in Fremont you must do the following:

- Read the Legal Document [ City of Fremont City Council Agenda Pages 133-137 ]

- Apply for a permit at the police station

- Pay a $25 fee

- Provide a valid drivers license proving you are at least 18 years of age

- Meet all vehicle requirements including headlight, tail light, turn signals, adequate muffler and spark arrestor, roll bar, safety belts, bicycle safety flag, etc..
- Provide proof of liability insurance for vehicle

- Do not exceed 30 mph and do not drive on 23rd Street, Broad street, Bell Street or Military Ave.

Twin Peaks Bike Night | Dillon Bros Bike of the Week: 08-23-2012

For this week’s Dillon Brothers "Bike of the Week" from the Twin Peaks Restaurant Bike Night we congratulate Rick Meloccaro.

Rick’s super clean 1977 KZ 1000 dazzled the crowds with chrome and polish that would not be outmatched. This with the meticulous attention to detail and obvious proper tuning put Rick’s Kawasaki on top.

Dillon Brothers Bike of the Week - August 16th, 2012 - Twin Peaks Bike Night

Nice work Rick. The Kawasaki guys are out strong this month and have delivered a solid one two combination August knockout. We’re looking forward to seeing much more tough bike night competition before the season is over. See you all out at Twin Peaks Restaurant in Omaha, NE on Thursday nights.

2013 Honda NC700X – Big Splash In The Adventure Touring Motorcycle Pool

“The 2013 Honda NC700X is unlike any other motorcycle on the market today, not only in terms of style but in features as well.”

The 2013 NC700X from Honda is making big waves as it enters the adventure touring motorcycle arena. They’ve been flying out the door as fast as we can get them out of the crates here at Dillon Brothers Motorsports. With the economy still on the skids and fuel prices looming ever higher Honda has introduced a whole new type of motorcycle to keep up with the changing times. The 2013 Honda NC700X is unlike any other motorcycle on the market today, not only in terms of style but in features as well.

Whether you call it an adventure tourer,  a sport tourer, a motard or even a street tracker or dual sport, the 2013 NC700X is proving hard pigeon hole into just one category. Featuring a brand new 670cc liquid cooled parallel twin engine a 6 speed transmission, the new NC700X gets a staggering 64 mpg and a starting price of only $6999 which makes it just as easy on the wallet as it is on the eyes. If you want to spend a little more you can even get it with a Dual Clutch Transmission with 3 modes: two automatic settings, sporty S and standard D, as well as MT – which allows riders to shift manually via switchgear buttons.

2013-honda-nc700x-dct-controls  2013-honda-nc700x-dct-internals  2013-nc700x-dct-right-control

Probably one of the coolest features of the NC700X in my opinion is the 21 liter “trunk” storage area area where the fuel tank traditionally resides which is big enough for a full face helmet.  Honda accomplished this by installing the generous 3.7 gallon fuel tank under the seat.  Additional touring friendly accessories will be offered including 45-liter top case and 29-liter saddlebags as well as crash guards, LED fog lights, heated grips, 12V DC socket and a center stand.

2013-Honda-NC700X-Trunk  Honda-NC700X-rear-seat  Honda-NC700X-2013-accessories

Of course the NC700X isn’t the only contender if the newly emerging adventure touring class of motorcycles, just the latest and perhaps the most unique. Here at Dillon Brothers Motorsports we carry a large selection of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha and Triumph motorcycles, both new and used. I am also including KTM in the list to broaden the discussion. Triumph has been lurking around in adventure riding world for a few years.  First with the Tiger 800 and it’s bigger brother Tiger 1050 and then with the newly released 2012 Tiger Explorer featuring a new 1215cc powerhouse of an engine.  Other recent entries into the adventure touring field are the Yamaha Super Ténéré, the Suzuki V-Strom which is available in a 1000 and a 650 version and the Kawasaki Versys. KTM is also coming on strong with their 990 Adventure and 990 Supermoto models.

There is also plenty of more traditional dual sport motorcycles on the market today as well if that’s more your style. It seems that todays dual sports come in all sizes and styles from 200s up to 650s and from basically dirt bikes with turn signals to motorcycles that look just as at ease on the streets as on the trails. Kawasaki offers 2 models, the KLR 650 and the KLX 250S. Suzuki has their DR650SE and the DR-Z400S. Honda had only one true dual sport in their 2012 lineup, the XR650L and it looks like for 2013 they have replaced it with a CRF250L. Yamaha carries 3 models, all smaller in size, including the TW200, WR250 and the XT250. KTM has two street legal dual sports, the 350 EXC-F and the larger 500EXC.

Whatever style bike you settle on remember that Dillon Brothers Motorsports carries a large selection of motorcycles to meet your needs. With plenty of new and used motorcycles in stock and the 2013 models arriving daily be sure to stop in and let us help you find the perfect bike for you.
