Beginner Motorcyclists Best Friend : Learn to Ride at Dillon Brothers Motorsports

“Whatever kind of motorcycle you decide on we want you to know that we are here to answer any questions you may have.”

For beginning riders and those who want to learn to ride a motorcycle your local dealership is your best resource for information, equipment, parts and service, or even motorcycle class. No matter if you learn to ride on a small sport bike like the Kawasaki Ninja 250R or Honda CBR250, a beginner cruiser like the Yamaha V-Star 250, a Honda Rebel or even a scooter I’m sure you’ll have plenty of questions. Of course many others have no intention of ever hitting the streets as they purchase their first dirt bike. In this article I’ll try to highlight the most common concerns and needs of todays beginner riders.

“After students learn to ride a motorcycle  students who pass are given a Motorcycle Safety Foundation completion card”

Probably the most importing thing you can do after you decide on a new motorcycle is to take a good training class.  We offer a world class new rider course here at Dillon Brothers. After students learn to ride a motorcycle  those who pass are given a Motorcycle Safety Foundation completion card which allows you to go waive additional testing when you go to the DMV to get your motorcycle license.

Riders Edge Training Course

The second most importing thing after motorcycle training is getting the proper protective gear to keep you safe when you ride. We carry a comprehensive selection of helmets, armored jackets, gloves, boots, and off-road protective gear. I can tell you from experience how important it is to wear the proper gear when riding, whether you’re on a long distance ride or even a short trip the store.  Personally I believe in the AGAT or “all the gear, all the time” theory of motorcycle riding and have even had the unfortunate opportunity to prove the effectiveness of protective gear to some of my riding buddies.

Of course many beginner riders and even a lot of veteran motorcycle enthusiasts either can’t or in some cases just don’t want to do the work themselves so a reliable service department is a must. Our service techs have dozens of combined years of experience and can handle any problems that may occur with your motorcycle. From regular maintenance to tire changes to even the most complex repairs you can count on the Dillon Brothers Motorsports service department to get you back on the road as quick as possible.

Mid sized Marvel: 2012 Ninja 650r

“Finally a comfortable new midsized sport bike.”

For the first time since my introduction into the sport bike world with my old Suzuki Bandit 600 I’m truly excited about a new sport bike. Introducing the 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650, a new addition into the rarified world of comfortable sportbikes. For those of us with bad backs who love the looks of the modern bikes but can’t handle laying on the tank all day there’s finally something new to check out.

“The motorcycling world seemed to forget those of us who love a nice mid sized engine.”

I’d almost given up on the idea finding a new mid-sized sport bike. It seems like for almost the last decade you had your choice of a tiny little 250cc or a 1000+cc super bike with mostly race oriented bikes in between. The motorcycling world seemed to forget those of us who love a nice mid sized engine. Especially on something that is light enough to flick around without worrying about getting crushed every time we climbed off the bike.

Riding the 650r on a Desert Road

Call me crazy but I have a long standing personal rule about owning a bike that I can’t get off me if it ever fell over. I also promised myself (and my wife) not to buy a bike with a bigger engine than any car I’ve ever owned and since my first car was a little Honda Civic back in the 80s that rules out a lot of them. Another benefit for a mid sized engine comes when you call the insurance agent to get a quote on your new toy. The bigger the engine, the higher the premium. With the new Ninja 650 you get a 649cc liquid cooled engine with plenty of power that’s still light enough to have some fun. I also enjoy having a 6th gear for cruising. So if you see someone at the showroom drooling like a kid in a candy store over the new Ninja, give my shoulder a shake to wake me from day dreaming and maybe I’ll see you on the road during my test ride.

Since its inception in the early eighties Kawasaki’s Ninja 250 has been the bike for entry-level riding. It continues to be the top selling motorcycle in the United States. The bike has been such a solid choice for nearly 30 years there have only been four significant changes, the last in 2008 as a complete redesign.

Ninja 250R’s popularity relies heavily on the smooth and reliable parallel twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. it’s tuned mainly for manageable and smooth torque at lower rpms and is connected to a six-speed transmission to cover the range of riding conditions from city to highway. The little ninja is mild mannered and easy to ride for anyone but still spirited enough to not put you to sleep while riding.
